Ahou strives to create a warm, comfortable, and safe environment for each client. She works to understand individuals holistically and strives to act as a partner as they create their own goals for counseling and progress through their journey towards meaningful change. Ahou works with clients of all ages. When working with children, Ahou values the relationship with both the child and the parents and works collaboratively with parents to help make necessary changes within the family. Additionally, Ahou is bilingual, speaking both English and Farsi.

Ahou earned her Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Child Development from the University of Texas at Dallas. She is passionate about working with children and adolescents and started her career as a 7th and 8th grade teacher. During that time, her passion for working with the socioemotional needs of children as well as their families grew. As a result, Ahou decided to return to school and earned her Master of Science in Counseling from Southern Methodist University. Ahou’s experience in the school system helps her understand and navigate the common struggles children face in that specific environment. She is also able to help parents advocate for their children’s needs within the academic setting.

Ahou has received extensive training in many treatment modalities including play therapy, activity therapy, group counseling, and talk therapy. She previously served as a counseling intern at SMU’s Center for Family Counseling where she gained experience working with children, adolescents, adults, parents, and groups. Ahou also gained experience as an intern school counselor and holds a Certified School Counselor license. Additionally, she facilitated social skills groups for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder at Nonpareil Institute. Ahou has gained a variety of experiences with many different counseling concerns including sexual abuse, depression, anxiety, ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, sexual identity, and sibling conflict. She has also presented and conducted trainings at schools and conferences on various topics, including parenting concerns and LGBTQ issues. In addition to counseling individuals, couples, families, and groups in private practice, Ahou is currently working towards earning her Ph.D. in Counseling at University of North Texas where she plans to continue specializing in play therapy.
